K-9 Time

We're moving Grady into a new room so that he and Liam have more space to themselves. Liam will keep the bunk beds in his room and we're putting two twin beds in Grady's new room. They are the Ethan beds from JC Penney (with the dresser) you see in this picture.

Yesterday we searched for some good mattress sales and came across a posting on Craigslist for a small mattress store in Jamaica Plain/Roxbury. It's not the best part of town, but their deals on twin mattress sets were unbeatable, so we took a trip there. The place was a disaster scene because of some construction work being done to masonary inside the store. Everything was covered in dust. And did I mention it was in a bad part of town? The store had a german shepherd tied up in the back that barked each time it got a good view of us. It intrigued Liam and Grady and they asked Colleen why there was a dog in the store.

"It's a watch dog," Colleen answered.

Liam said, "You mean that dog can tell time?!"

Some fancy footwork saves the day. My five year old, Liam, does his best to stop his soccer phenom bro.

Why, Amy?

I get mad at Amy Winehouse and her antics. I know it's old news that she's a train wreck, but I worry that people only know her for her drugs, drinking and anorexia and not the wonderful talent that she possesses. If you need to be reminded of, or to discover that talent, please watch this live acoustic set where she sings Valerie. (She's coherent and sober, and outstanding!)

Drunk History

Funny video featuring Michael Cera (Superbad, Clark & Michael, Arrested Development)

update: the more I watch this, the funnier it gets. Hamilton's calls to his family, the duel scene, "good call on putting the bucket right here" & "he's on the ten."

Bill Gates at CES

It's times like this that I miss (a little bit) doing PR for Microsoft. I actually got a little sad seeing him pretend to pack up his office.

Happy 2008!

I hope you all have a fun and healthy 2008. I'm looking forward to it.

  • On New Year's Day, we drove back from a nice celebration in Worcester with my brother- and sister-in-law. It was snowing hard in Worcester, but the snow was turning into sleet as we neared Natick. On Rt. 9, we encountered a red light, and in Colleen's Volvo 960 wagon, which is terrible in the snow, I applied the brakes, and began to slide. I scanned the intersection expecting the worst, grabbed Colleen, and tried to stay calm so the boys wouldn't freak out. We were lucky that the one car that was entering the intersection saw what was happening and stopped. Phew.

  • Grady, our 7 year old, is ultra competitive in sports. Liam, our 5 year old is not. Around the dinner table last night, they started doing the "2-4-6-8 who do we appreciate" chant and ticking off Grady's past team names: the Leopards and the Tigers. Liam said when he starts soccer this Spring, he wants his team name to be the Buttercups. Oh my. Can you imagine the fear that name will instill in opponents? "Oh no, we have to play the Buttercups today!" Shiver. Heh, heh.

  • I've been tossing around a couple of resolutions, but haven't settled on any yet. How about you?
