Jermaine Dye?!?

The Red Sox are reportedly close to signing Jermaine Dye of the White Sox in exchange for the terrible Willy Mo Pena and a minor league pitcher. While I'm all for getting rid of the useless Willy Mo, I just don't understand why we'd be going after Dye.

Dye is 34 years old, hitting .235 and is WAY down on his stolen bases (based mainly on the gut he's carrying around on those old legs). Sure, he has 19 homers, which is more than Manny and Big Papi, but Dye has done that in 89 games, and he'd be coming to Boston to be a sometimes player. Like, one or two times a week.

Pena and Dye seem fairly comparable to me both at bat and on the field.

Prove me wrong Jermaine. Adios Willy Mo.
