The Smart Sox

The Jermaine Dye deal is dead according to SI.com. Phew. Though, what are we going to do with Willy "No" Mo Pena?

Instead, we traded a promising yet inconsitent pitcher, Kason Gabbard, to Texas for Cy Young winner Eric Gagne who will help Papelbon with closing duties. Anything to keep Timlin off the mound is good news in my book.

I think our bats are secure enough, so I welcome Eric Serge Gagne with open arms.

Jermaine Dye?!?

The Red Sox are reportedly close to signing Jermaine Dye of the White Sox in exchange for the terrible Willy Mo Pena and a minor league pitcher. While I'm all for getting rid of the useless Willy Mo, I just don't understand why we'd be going after Dye.

Dye is 34 years old, hitting .235 and is WAY down on his stolen bases (based mainly on the gut he's carrying around on those old legs). Sure, he has 19 homers, which is more than Manny and Big Papi, but Dye has done that in 89 games, and he'd be coming to Boston to be a sometimes player. Like, one or two times a week.

Pena and Dye seem fairly comparable to me both at bat and on the field.

Prove me wrong Jermaine. Adios Willy Mo.

Frustrating, but potentially useful

No matter how carefully I wrap my earbuds around my iPod, they are impossibly tangled whenever I go to use them again. I'm thinking that if I'm ever stuck somewhere, I could throw the earbuds up to a limb or something and have themselves wrap super-glue-tight to it and hoist myself up.

The RadioShack earbuds have an L and R on them, and 99 times out of 100, I first pick the R one with my left hand. Sigh. Such is life of a commuter balancing a computer bag, umbrella and an iPod.

Long absence hopefully worth it

A month without posting. Hopefully you'll find Clark and Michael as funny as I do. I saw Michael Cera on Letterman this week and checked out his 8- to 10-minute web episodes. The dry humor is great. Start with episode #1 and you'll be hard pressed to not watch straight through to the most recent episode, #8.
