Kitchen Remodel

Our big kitchen remodel began this morning, and our contractor told me they already have all the old cabinets, counters and appliances out. I posted the cabinets/sink/garbage disposal on Craigslist for free last night around 8:30 and by 8:45, I had received 3 phone calls and no less than 25 e-mails. It was crazy. It feels good to pass on these items to someone in need. They pick them up at 7:00 tonight.

We're selling the dishwasher for $75 and the stove for $150 -- much lower than they're probably worth, but we would like to take in some money since we're paying out so much.

After the remodel is over, we'll sell the fridge and microwave, since we're using those now to keep some semblance of a kitchen in our house. We've outfitted our family room with the remnants of our kitchen. Hello paper plates & bowls, plastic utensils, and I'm sure a big restaurant bill over the next 4-6 weeks.

Here are the pictures I posted on Craigslist for the cabinets. It'll give you a good "before" look. I'll post ongoing shots.

How long will the remodel take? Good luck!

Wow! That's going to be quite the process, but oh so worth it. Must have been fun coming up with new plans.

Will, our contractor estimates 4-6 weeks. At the pace they're on now, it looks possible.

CW: Yes, we're confident it will be worth the time and $. What was truly fun was not caring about the little things that were going wrong in our kitchen for the last couple of months, knowing it would all be ripped out. A disposable kitchen!

Isn't it great to not have all that going into the landfill? When we redid our kitchen in our condo in our pre-bus life, our neighborhood was so poor we could just put the parts and pieces out on the curb and they'd disappear overnight. Instant recycling! I loved that.

Thanks for leaving your blog's address over on Our Odyssey. It's really fun to read YOUR words for a change :-)
